Canada: Alberta to ban pesticide-fertilizer combination products
In an effort to protect water quality, Alberta Environment Minister Rob Renner last week announced that herbicide-fertilizer combination products will no longer be sold in the province beginning Jan. 1, 2010. Products for spot application to weeds will still be permitted. "We need to take steps wherever possible to protect and preserve the quality of Alberta's rivers and lakes," Renner said in a statement. "By eliminating products that encourage mass application, we will reduce the amount of chemical runoff in our waterways."
