A curious alignment of organic food and discount retail interests looks like helping to revive demand for some neglected fruit and vegetable varieties. One example of this is the increase in production and sales of celeriac in Germany (FOODNEWS 4 February) . This has been fuelled both by demand for seasonal vegetables from organic distributors and by discounters being able to offer it cheaply in season. Celeriac is not a traditional vegetable in the UK but when I go down to my local discount store I find celeriac. So what might attract consumers in Britain?
