Waitrose to ship to US

This article was originally published in Foodnews

WAITROSE is planning to ship foodstuffs to the US and Canada this year and is seeking to expand this export business, currently worth GBP100 million per year. The UK grocer, part of the John Lewis group, has been increasing export volumes for the past decade, The Daily Telegraph reported. However, it is understood that the move is not a test run for setting up Waitrose stores overseas, the newspaper added. But while the company's priority remains on increasing its market share in Britain its foreign franchise operations are increasing – it has opened Waitrose shops in Dubai and Bahrain and plans to open another 20-25 in other parts of the Gulf within the next five years.
