Senate, House Members Signal Completion of Water Resources Bill Yet This Year

The leaders of the House and Senate committees working on water resources legislation told Bloomberg BNA separately they are hopeful work can be completed this year on the two bills. Sens. Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.) and David Vitter (R-La.), chairman and ranking member, respectively, of the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee, and Reps. Bill Shuster (R-Pa.) and Nick Rahall (D-W.Va.), chairman and ranking member, respectively, of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, said they have begun preliminary conference work and have held preliminary meetings within their parties. With conferees now appointed, both chambers hope to have their first formal meeting soon, according to Boxer. “I think people want to get it done,” Boxer told Bloomberg BNA. “Boehner said he's not doing anything else, so what's he going to do? They have slim pickings on their plate.”
