Food Regulation’s 10 Biggest Game-Changing Events of 2012

1. GE labeling battles to go on after defeat of California’s Prop 37 (see FCN Nov. 9, 2012, Page 1) – Many things of consequence happened with regard to food regulation as a result of the November general election, but nothing with as much impact as the vote on Prop 37. The bill, which would have required warning labels on foods that contain GE ingredients in California, the world’s ninth largest market, went down by a close 53%-47% tally. However, despite the result, GE labeling advocates are now mustering forces in Washington, Oregon and other states. The battles have just begun.
