Roger Johnson, president of the National Farmers Union, on May 30, sent a letter to congressional leadership expressing concern over threats of retaliation made by Canadian and Mexican trade officials in response to USDA’s final country-of-origin labeling (COOL) rule. USDA’s Agricultural Marketing Service (AMI) on May 23 released its final COOL rule, just in time to meet the deadline set by the World Trade Organization for compliance with a ruling last year that found unfair discrimination against livestock raised in Canada and Mexico (see FCN May 24, 2013, Page 4).
