Japan’s resumed imports of U.S. wheat this month, following a two-month suspension after unapproved genetically engineered “volunteers” were discovered on a farm in Oregon, Agra Europe reports (see FCN July 19, 2013, Page 8). Agriculture Minister Yoshimasa Hayashi says all wheat imported from the United States will now be tested for a GE strain before the government puts it up for bidding by dealers. Bidding for western white wheat began Aug. 1 and for soft white wheat used as cattle feed on Aug. 7.
