Bioenergy innovation scheme

Eight EU member states are investing around €43 million in a scheme to develop innovative bioenergy projects. The ERA-NET Plus BESTF scheme, which includes the UK, Finland, Sweden, Germany, Spain, Denmark, Switzerland and Portugal, will provide funding for bioenergy innovation projects valued at around €100m. John Hayes, energy minister of the UK, which is providing up to £10m (€12m) for the programme, said: “This scheme will help business develop a range of different innovative projects by combining public and private sector investment to make the most of this exciting new technology.” Organisations seeking funding will be invited to put forward proposals early this year with grants expected to be made in 2014, Utility Week reported.
