Baucus Expects TPA Legislation In 2013 but No Markup Until 2014

Trade promotion authority (TPA) legislation likely will be introduced in 2013, but markup of the measure may not take place until the new year, Senate Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus (D-Mont.) said Nov. 14. In remarks following a speech to the annual US-Japan Business Conference, Baucus said lawmakers must act and the White House must give “strong support” in order to get TPA passed. In response to a question about the sides being close to agreeing on a single TPA bill, Baucus responded affirmatively. Baucus said Ways and Means Committee Chairman Dave Camp (R-Mich.) and others would introduce TPA this year. He added, “We may not get it marked-up this year.”
