Survey: 48% of Large Employers Expect to Trigger ‘Cadillac' Tax

Nearly half of US employers anticipate triggering the Affordable Care Act's excise tax on high-cost health insurance plans, according to new analysis (link) by Towers Watson. Some 48% of employers surveyed with 5,000 employees or more expect to trigger the tax in 2018 and 82% by 2023, the professional services company said. Towers Watson said companies may not be aware of all the factors determining the tax, and the tax burden is expected to be about $79 billion between 2018 and 2023, according to Congressional Budget Office estimates.
