EU Commission free to approve GM 1507 corn

The European Commission is free to go ahead with rubber-stamping its own proposal to approve the cultivation of DuPont/Dow AgroSciences’ genetically modified insect-resistant Herculex I (1507) corn (maize), Agrow reports. The development follows the failure of EU Ministers to reach a qualified majority agreement on Feb. 11 either for or against the proposed approval. After views became clear during the debate, the Greek presidency did not hold a formal vote.
