Unemployment Benefits Wins Narrow Senate Procedural Vote
The Senate voted 60-37 on Tuesday to invoke cloture on a motion to proceed to the proposal (S 1845) for a three-month extension of jobless aid. Six Republicans joined Democrats in supporting the measure, which was sponsored by Sens. Jack Reed (D-R.I.) and Dean Heller (R-Nev.). It is unclear when a vote on final passage will take place, or whether the bill will be open to amendment.
