Advocacy groups seek neonic, GM crop ban in wildlife refuges

The Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) should prohibit the use of neonicotinoid insecticides and the planting of genetically modified crops within national wildlife refuges, according to a petition filed with the agency by environmentalist and food safety groups. The petition criticizes the FWS for allowing GM crops and neonicotinoid use within refuges "despite the fact that they cause substantial environmental harm and thus are antithetical" to federal law and "the very purposes" of the refuges, Agrow reports.
