Produce growers upset with EPA effort to settle salmon ESA case

Produce growers in Western states are urging the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to rethink a proposed settlement of litigation of an Endangered Species Act (ESA) lawsuit that would reinstate streamside buffer zones in the Pacific Northwest for five insecticides. Western Growers says EPA has wrongly kept the public from participating in the negotiated settlement, claiming the agency "cannot decide policy and regulations during a closed door process commonly known as the 'sue and settle' process."
