New York soda ban redux
BELTWAY NOTEBOOK -- New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio on Wednesday urged the state’s Court of Appeals in Albany to impose former Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s proposed ban on sugary drinks larger than 16 ounces in restaurants and other venues. The city's Board of Health approved the ban in September 2012, but two lower courts have since blocked it, ruling that Bloomberg should have sought City Council approval (see FCN July 30, 2013).
