Macroeconomic Perspectives – What Have We Learned This Week

Informa Economics’ forecasts: We have been questioning for the last year whether the US economy can serve as the global centerpiece for growth and today we know the answer is yes, but with some headwinds.  Clearly, the US had achieved better than 3 percent real GDP growth recently and the economy is likely to exhibit similar growth through the remainder of the year.  This solid domestic growth has been accomplished in the face of a struggling China the world's second largest economy growing at 4 to 6 percent (below recent history) with other industrial economies in Europe, Canada and Japan limping along while other emerged economies are all facing growth problems.
