Novel food for use in diet supplements/powdered drinks wins EU authorisation

The UK’s Food Standards Agency (FSA) has granted an authorisation for the use for dihydrocapsiate (DHC)1 as a novel food ingredient for use in dietary supplements and powdered drinks. The application was made by Japanese company Ajinomoto. The company says that DHC, which is found naturally in chilli peppers and is a member of the capsinoid family of compounds, has the potential to control obesity.
