FDA may issue final trans fat decision by June 15

In other FDA news, the White House’s spring 2015 regulatory agenda released May 21 included a new listing for a proposed FDA rule to establish user fees in connection with the accreditation of third-party auditors. Under the Food Safety Modernization Act, accredited third-party auditors may conduct food safety audits of foreign food facilities and FDA is tasked with setting up a system for collecting fees to operate the accreditation program. According to the agenda – which can be more aspirational than reliable with regard to the timing of regulatory actions – FDA expected to issue the proposed rule this month.
