Monsanto Wins APHIS Approval for Herbicide-Tolerant GMO Cotton, Soybean

USDA granted final approval to Monsanto for its new strains of GMO cotton and soybean that are resistant to multiple herbicides. A Jan. 15 announcement from the department's Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) said that it has determined these strains would be “unlikely to pose a plant pest risk.” This final approval allows Monsanto to begin selling these cotton and soybean strains, which it plans to market under the trade name Xtend.
