Vilsack Updates Farm Program Signup Results
USDA Sec. Tom Vilsack said at the National Farmers Union conference in Kansas on Monday that 90% of those eligible have adjusted historical base acres to reflect changes in acreage devoted to specific crops and updated the average crop yield on which payments will be made under the safety-net program. (Reallocating base acres and updating yields is up to the landowner, unless the renter has power of attorney at the FSA office, they can do it.) USDA extended the period for making those changes from Feb. 27 to March 31.
