USDA today is expected to announce a one-time extension, to March 31, for landowners to reallocate historical base acres to reflect changes in acreage devoted to specific crops and to update the average crop yield on which payments will be made under the 2014 Farm Bill. The base reallocations apply to both the Price Loss Coverage (PLC) and Ag Risk Coverage (ARC) safety net options, but the yield updates only impact PLC payments. The original deadline was today. If no changes are made to yield history or base acres by the new deadline, a farm ‘s current yield and base will be used.
