Supplement industry goes for damage control

CRN last week issued new guidance to its members advising them to refrain from selling bulk powdered caffeine directly to consumers.   And in response to a March 30 GNC announcement that the company would begin using DNA barcoding to confirm the authenticity of the active ingredients in its Herbal Plus brand products, CRN had an equally direct response – that DNA barcoding is inappropriate for testing herbal supplements and would be “a real disservice to consumers.”
