EU member states told to monitor foods for arsenic

The European Commission has called on EU member states to check for arsenic in a wide range of foods, including cereal grains and dairy products, to allow its experts to better assess potential risks to consumers. Earlier this year, the German risk assessor, the Bundesinstitut fuer Risikobewertung (BfR), separately called for the presence of arsenic in rice products to be investigated because of its potential to be carcinogenic in humans.
