UK “should tax sugar in sweets and chocolate”, not just soft drinks

Influential campaign group Action on Sugar is urging the UK government to raise a mandatory levy on the sugar in sweets and chocolate to support the fight against obesity and Type 2 diabetes. The government has already drafted legislation to tax sugar in soft drinks from 2018 and the bill was notified to the European Commisson in April. But Action on Sugar believes this doesn’t go far enough to reduce the sugar-related health problems.
