The sweetener D-tagatose should not be classified as an added sugar on the new Nutrition Facts panel, says Bonumose LLC in a petition filed last month. The food ingredient has health benefits, does not increase the risk for chronic disease and its listing as an added sugar would only confuse consumers, the company says.
