Podcast: What does the future hold for the biopesticides sector?
With a Compound Annual Growth Rate of 16-17%, biopesticides is currently the fastest growing segment in the crop protection sector, with sales estimated at US$3 billion today compared with $0.6bn in 2003.
North America and Europe combined account for two-thirds of the total market, but Latin America is expected to be the fastest growing region for sales in the period to 2025, overtaking Asia Pacific.
The sector is currently characterised by a large and diverse membership with a high proportion of small and medium-sized enterprises, and many new start-ups, entering the sector in recent years.
With the drive to produce more food for a growing population without causing damage to the environment at the same time an increasingly pressing concern, the future looks bright for the biopesticide industry. But there are still challenges to be overcome, not least with a fragmented regulatory framework around the world.
In this podcast, Dr Alan Bullion, head of special reports for Agribusiness Intelligence, discusses the latest report produced by IEG Policy’s sister website Agrow, titled: “Global Biopesticide Regulations 2018”.
