Tax on sugary drinks in Spain leads to slight decline in consumption, finds report

Report also reveals rising demand for shakes, sugared teas, nut milks and energy drinks.

The sugar-sweetened bottled beverage consumption fell by 2.2% in May 2018 year-on-year in the Spanish region of Catalonia, once its government imposed a sugar tax in May 2018, according to a survey conducted by the International University of Catalonia (UIC).
