Portugal seizes spirit drink for allegedly “abusing protected status of Tequila”

Criminal proceedings have been launched after 1,750 litres of the drink were seized.

Portugal’s food safety and economic monitoring authority (ASAE) inspected and seized 1,750 litres of a spirit for allegedly abusing the geographical indication Tequila in early February, following a complaint from the Tequila regulating council Consejo Regulador del Tequila (CRT).
