US takes aim at EU protection for Danish cheese, concerned at CAP GI proposals

US WTO communication argues the EU’s registration of Denmark’s ‘danbo’ was made “with a complete disregard for the international standard in Codex.”

The United States has again raised issues with the European Union’s system for protected geographical indication (PGI) products, criticising the recent registration process for ‘danbo’ and ‘havarti’ cheese as well as proposals to amend EU regulations on quality schemes under the new Common Agricultural Policy.
