EU move to extend organic certification to insects welcomed by industry

The International Platform of Insects for Food and Feed (IPIFF) welcomes a draft delegated act to allow insect producers to be eligible for organic certification. But IPIFF says proposals related to stocking density, feed and cannibalism “cannot be realistically implemented”.

Europe’s insect producers have welcomed plans by the European Commission to include them in the organic certification scheme currently operating for mainstream agriculture. But they say some of the requirements being proposed for certification are “unrealistic”.
