Hemp facing “disproportionate and senseless” measures after EU novel food categorisation

The EU has created a new entry in the Novel Foods Catalogue for Cannabinoids, which states that all hemp extracts are classified as a novel food, triggering anger and confusion among those who produce and trade in hemp products.

The non-binding classification of foods containing cannabidiol (CBD) has led to “disproportionate and senseless” measures against them in many European countries, the European Industrial Hemp Association (EIHA) said today (May 8).
