Call for meat-free policy as plant-based burgers take to the spotlight in Europe

Organic body the Soil Association wants schools in the UK to have at least one meat-free day each week. Burger King has launched a plant-based burger in Sweden and an innovative 3D-printed, plant-based steak could be on UK shelves by 2022.

Organic certification body, the Soil Association, has called on the UK government this week to update rules on school meals and introduce mandatory meat-free days each week to help address climate change and obesity. It comes as two new meat-based alternatives are showcased in Europe, including by US fast food giant Burger King.
