USDA’s Office of Inspector General’s (OIG) ongoing probe into the swine slaughter rule should be expanded to look at the Food Safety and Inspection Service’s (FSIS) handling of data used to back food safety and animal welfare claims, says an Aug. 2 letter from Rep. Rosa DeLauro (D-Conn.) and Sen. Jeff Merkley (D-Ore.).
