Denmark to ban PFAS chemicals in food packaging from 2020

The country looks set to be the first in the world to ban perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl (PFAS) from food packaging after studies suggest they can negatively affect human health.

Chemicals that make paper and cardboard food packaging water and grease resistant, called perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl (PFAS), are to be banned in Denmark from 2020, the Danish ministry for environment and food has announced.
