UK confirms legislation to improve ingredients labelling will come into force in October 2021

The legislation requires full ingredients labelling on pre-packed food for direct sale, thereby closing a loophole in the existing law. It came about following the death of a teenager who ate a baguette containing undeclared seasame seeds.

A new law laid in the UK Parliament today requires food businesses to include full ingredients labelling on pre-packed foods for direct sale. The legislation is a response to the death of 15-year-old Natasha Ednan-Laperouse, who ate a baguette containing undeclared sesame at chain sandwich store, Pret a Manger.
