Mercosur countries move to align closer with EU laws on food contact materials

The move will be welcomed in the EU which has concluded, but not yet ratified, a massive trade deal with the South American trading bloc.

The Mercosur countries of Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay have passed a Resolution which aligns their legislation on food contact materials more closely with that of the EU, writes Joan Baughan, a partner in law firm Steptoe & Johnson. The four countries have until January 15, 2020 to incorporate the Regulation into their national laws.
