Hogan wins strong endorsement as next EU Trade Commissioner

Biggest party in the European Parliament says his performance at a hearing this week was "impressive". The Greens said he lacked the ambition to bring trade and climate goals together.

Outgoing Agriculture Commissioner Phil Hogan has been endorsed by all the European Parliament political groups as the next Trade Commissioner, with the exception of the Greens, after a grilling by MEPs on Monday. Hogan will officially become EU trade chief from November 1 if he gains the approval of the full European Parliament in a plenary vote on October 21-24.
