EU court finds term “balsamico” on its own not covered by Italian PGI

The ruling handed down today by the European Court of Justice (ECJ) finds that an Italian PGI does not prevent companies using terms such as “balsamico” and “deutscher balsamico”.

The protection of the name ‘”Aceto Balsamico di Modena” does not extend to the use of the non-geographical terms of that name such as “aceto” and “balsamico”, the European Court of Justice (ECJ) has ruled today (December 4).
