FSIS updates animal raising label claims guidelines, considers request to define ‘free-range’

While the Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) is still considering a 2016 petition from the Animal Welfare Institute (AWI) to define the claim “free-range” on meat and poultry labels, the agency has shut the door on a related request from the Animal Legal Defense Fund (ALDF) calling for mandatory labels to indicate when animals are raised with antibiotics.
